Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Co-Axial Day-Date Review

Nevertheless, Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra, over the years, becomes one of the most popular Omega’s Luxury Watches collection. Moreover, the classic lines coupled with the vertical lines on the dial remain its main characteristics. These features offer to this watch an extremely versatile look but become also wearable at any moment of the day.

Omega launched this model at BaselWorld in 2013, as its new member of the family: the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Day-Date. Thus, Omega created the Seamaster Aqua Terra influenced by many design elements which characterized in the past some great Omega wristwatches. Nevertheless, one of these watches was the 1960 Automatic Seamaster. In fact, Omega Aqua Terra fits homage to its timeless design but what’s inside its case would make its predecessors very proud.

The Aqua Terra 41.5 mm Day-Date comes also with a 41.5 mm case diameter housing an Omega Self-Winding caliber 8602 / 8612 with a Day display at 12 o’clock and also the Date display at 6 o’clock.

Just a little History behind Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

While Omega created the Omega Seamaster range in 1948, they launched the first Omega Seamaster 30 in 1962. The “30” in the model name refers not to the depth of water resistance, but instead to the size of the movement. The Omega’s 30 mm hand-wound movements proved exceedingly popular and they produced it in large quantities until the mid-twentieth century, ending with Calibre 269. In fact, the first Seamaster 30 watches used Calibre 286 (created in 1961), a 17-jewel movement with 42-hour power reserve and sweep seconds.

All Omega Seamaster 30 watches feature a circular stainless steel case with signed Omega crown and a solid case back with the hippocampus logo. It’s overall aesthetic, with thin hour indices and a clean undecorated dial, was similar to that of other Omega dress watches including the well-known DeVille Collection. For some time there were treated together like both dress watches and sports watches. But, bearing the Seamaster name, eventually, Omega phased out the dressier Seamasters altogether.

Although after some little researching, early Seamasters can be found in numerous configurations.  But, you can find from time-only models to slightly more complicated versions with a date aperture at 3 o’clock. When a Seamaster 30 is found, it can usually be sold for less than $1,000 and in fairly good condition. Seamasters with black dials generally sell for double the price of more common models with silver dials – so, as with many vintage watches, it’s important to look for signs of a redone dial.
