The Explorer models embody the privileged relationship that has always bound Rolex and exploration. Since the late 1920s, Rolex has been using the world as a proving ground to test its watches under real-life conditions, in the quest for greater precision, robustness, and reliability. Introduced in 2011, for the first time the Explorer II used a case bigger than those of most other sports-Rolex Watches – measuring 42mm. The orange 24h hand is a throwback to the vintage 1655.

The Movement – Rolex Caliber 3185

Used in models GMT-Master II and Explorer II, the Rolex caliber 3185 is based on the 3135 but fitted with an adjustable 24h hand. Additionally, to the conventional hour, minute and also seconds hands, 3187 Rolex Caliber features a 24-hour hand to display a second-time-zone. Of course, this movement comes fitted with a Parachrom hairspring and also Paraflex shock absorbers. Nevertheless, these features offer greater resistance to shocks and also to extreme conditions. Thus, like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3185 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests.
